Like a monster under the bed that lurks every night without you realizing it. Like a locked drawer inside us that, one day, someone opens and you can never close it again. You are not good enough, you shouldn’t be achieving what you are, you don’t deserve to be here.

Impostor Syndrome is that monster, that drawer.

Through these pages, I want to understand how I ended up suffering this feeling, and how almost all women—creative or not—have experienced it at some point, or always. This is a release, a meeting between you, the reader, and me. To understand ourselves, to learn about ourselves, to find the reasons. I’m going to explain mine, from the very beginning, and hopefully, one day, you’ll tell me yours.

About the author:

Celia Gallego (@celiagal7) is an artist from Valladolid living in Madrid. With studies in journalism and piano, her passion, painting, is what has brought her to where she is now. She has exhibited in galleries such as Whitelab, Montsequi, and the Art Battalion festival where she exhibited in 2021 at the Riu hotel overlooking Gran Vía.

She has worked as an artist for Faber Castell, Winsor and Newton, Inditex, Tous, among many other brands. Several of her works have gone viral on social media, such as her round eyes on canvas that have reached more than twenty-two million views on TikTok.

Her artistic work focuses mainly on the search for the inner self in people. How we can change our personalities depending on the people around us. How our psychology works thanks to these social phenomena. That is why she always portrays people with split, disfigured faces, mixed with each other, focusing on surrealist art.

Her work as an artist and journalist has led her to want to delve deeper into impostor syndrome, which has haunted her since she was very young, due to not having formally studied Fine Arts and being a self-taught artist.
