La Cantera
An expansive debut that imagines the future from folklore.
Guitarricadelafuente… Many elements of Álvaro Lafuente refer back to his roots, starting with the diminutive of his stage name, which flows from the Aragonese village of his grandparents. Or that inseparable acoustic guitar that also gave him his name. That is why the sophistication he faces takes on a special dimension in his music: fascinating and seductive. The current Guitarrica earns a doctorate in extreme originality, the same that makes him one of the most promising artists of the new decade.
In 2022 he releases La cantera, his debut album. With songs that no longer come directly from the six strings, but undergo a careful creative process and are reinvented in the studio. It is a new Guitarricadelafuente, but it is the same one. The one with that very personal style that made him explode from the very homemade El conticinio (2018), now unabashedly flirting with electronic and urban sounds.
The album starts with Mil y una noches, a statement of intent where his roots cross with a subtle pop-urban and electronic aesthetic. It is followed by the atmospheric Amanita, which confirms the new sonic direction. The record progresses showing its two sides: exploration, with the heartbeat of Caballito and the dance impulse of Quién encendió la luz; and the roots side, where Ya mi mamá decía and the delicate Flor de caramelo shine. Towards the end, Vidalita del mar paves the way for the closing with A carta cabal, an intimate and confessional epilogue.
