A book that hides under its cover a dagger with a Hello Kitty sticker to open identity towards its most radical freedom and let its blood rewrite – fresh and multicolored – all the Edens. We have always worked under the premise that publishing must be a network of care, and so we try to weave it around our community: the book community. We believe this care must also commit to expanding its reach, to generating a small but tangible impact in the world. That is why all profits from the Letra de molde collection will be donated to nonprofit organizations related to the themes addressed in each book of the collection. These anthologies move from the collective to the collective and seek to contribute through writing to building firmer ground for those who have always had to walk on tiptoes. Letra de molde is a collection that flies over an idea, a purpose, a group, ten by ten. Sometimes a discovery leads to, say, Ophelia, and from there all the texts speak of a winding stream, a broken branch of a willow, purple flowers, a wild crown, or avoiding madness. And if we let ourselves be carried away by this revelation, it will continue beyond reading, into life itself: the urban rat on Ophelia’s chest, the iridescent oil puddle at the gas station, or the only tree in your neighborhood with a fallen branch. Everything is arranged to keep us afloat for a brief moment: 10 poems are enough.

Breakthrough novel in Central Europe, winner of the Magnesia Litera for prose, the highest recognition in Czech literature.

At 3:37 in the morning, a phone call wakes the protagonist. It is his mother, whose voice stirs a current of deeply buried memories that lead him back to his childhood and adolescence in Prerov, a small industrial Czech town. There, in a conservative environment where difference was punished, he grew up as a young homosexual in a family without resources.

Gradually, the narrator unravels his memory as if flipping through an old photo album, searching for those small details that often reveal more than meets the eye. Throughout the pages of the novel, he talks about his mother, father, and grandfather; about bullying, alcoholism, and how to face a sexual orientation that deviates from the norm. From his personal experience, he pieces together the scattered parts of his family’s collective history; its secrets and silences.

With a sensitivity comparable to writers like Édouard Louis and Ocean Vuong, Marek Torcík tackles universal themes ―identity, trauma, belonging― from a brave, honest, and healing perspective. His first novel, Desplegarás la memoria, won the Magnesia Litera in 2024 in the prose category, the most important award in Czech literature.
